Transit Windsor will resume operations in one week’s time.

Mayor Drew Dilkens made the announcement on Monday morning that Transit Windsor will begin with city service, seven days a week, on an enhanced Sunday-style schedule, but with additional buses to meet demand, effective Monday, May 4th, 2020.

Transit Windsor will be employing enhanced safety measures and precautions to protect both riders and bus operators, Dilkens said.

Transit Windsor Executive Director Pat Delmore says social distancing will be maintained on buses, and certain seats will not be accessible. He says each bus will be moving substantially less passengers.

Delmore says bus operators will be provided with sanitizer and disinfectant wipes, and masks are on order. He says Transit Windsor employees will not be required to use either masks or gloves, but both will be provided if they choose to.

Dilkens says the decision to reopen Transit Windsor follows public health guidelines and the public should take note of the guidance provided by the Windsor Essex County Health Unit.

Officials said the resumption of Transit Windsor service will be “modest and measured to limit the future risk of local community spread of COVID-19.” They say Tunnel Bus service will not resume at this time.

“As governments around the world start to take steps to re-open it is vital that we take gradual and methodical steps to continue to combat the pandemic’s risk in our community,” said Dilkens. “The weeks and months ahead will require constant vigilance. Everyone needs to do their part and continue to maintain social distance and self-isolation for a while longer.”
