Six Additional Deaths, 5 New Cases Of COVID-19 In Windsor Essex As Of Wednesday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit has confirmed 5 additional cases of COVID-19 as of Wednesday morning, bringing the local total to 586. They said 179 people locally have recovered.
Cases increased from 581 on Tuesday April 28th to 586 on Wednesday April 29th.
The Health Unit announced six additional local deaths due to COVID-19 as of Wednesday bringing the local death toll to at 49. Dr. Wajid Ahmed says two females in their 90s, one male in his 90s, two females in their 80s, and one female in her 70s passed away. He said five of the six deaths took place in long-term care facilities and most of the people who passed away had pre-existing conditions.
Of the 49 total, local deaths, the Health Unit says 35 deaths have been residents of long-term care and retirement homes.
The Extendicare Southwood Lakes long term care home is once again under outbreak with one staff member reporting a case. The Health Unit says Franklin Gardens, Sun Parlour Home, Heron Terrace, Lifetimes on Riverside, AMICA at Windsor, and Country Village Homes remain under outbreak.
As of Wednesday morning, 6,319 tests have been conducted and 821 tests are still pending.
