The Windsor Essex County Health Unit has confirmed 12 additional cases of COVID-19 as of Monday morning, bringing the local total to 569. They said 139 people locally have recovered.

Cases increased from 557 on Sunday April 26th to 569 on Monday April 27th.

The Health Unit says there have not been any additional deaths as of Monday and the local death toll stands at 38. Of those 38 deaths, the Health Unit says 27 deaths have been from long-term care or retirement homes.

As of Monday morning, 5,679 tests have been conducted and 916 tests are still pending.

Dr. Wajid Ahmed says the public health measures are working.

“We are seeing the flattening of the curve not only in our region, but across the province as well,” he said.

With an increasing number of pending tests daily, Dr. Ahmed says increased testing and volumes of tests to process at public health labs are causing delays.
