Transit service in Tecumseh will continue.
In a news release late Friday, the Town says that following discussions with First Student Canada, the operator of Tecumseh Transit, the Town determined that Tecumseh’s transit service will continue to operate notwithstanding the temporary suspension of Windsor Transit during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
“I commend First Student for their dedicated service and continued operation for our residents,” said Gary McNamara, Mayor of Tecumseh. “Our transit service carries passengers to grocery stores, drugstores and places of work. We continue to see riders on the bus that depend on us for their vital transportation needs.”
Since Friday, March 20th, 2020, fares for the town transit service have been waived to reduce contact between drivers and passengers and First Student Canada has implemented additional cleanings and sanitization daily to protect those using and operating the service.
The transit service has 43 stops throughout Town, providing access to a number of pharmacies and the two main grocery stores, Zehrs and Food Basics.
Tecumseh Transit riders are provided with a transfer stop at Tecumseh Mall; however, the connections to Windsor Transit will cease as of Sunday, March 29th, 2020.
