Lakeshore OPP have closed a lakefront road in Belle River due to flooding.
Caille Avenue is closed and the OPP are reminding motorists to avoid high water levels and driving through roads submerged in water.
Police are asking citizens to respect road closure signs as it’s difficult to judge the depth of water on a roadway and your vehicle could become disabled when attempting to cross flooded roads.
The OPP are also asking citizens not to call 9-1-1 for information on road closures.
The Town of Lakeshore is making sandbags available for free to residents living on the water. Residents can visit the Atlas Tube Centre with ID to obtain up to 100 sandbags.
Sand is available at the following locations:
- 304 Rourke Line (former Belle River Arena)
- Lighthouse Cove Lion’s Park
- Golfview Waterfront Parkette
- Gracey Sideroad at Lakeshore Road 301
Additional sand and 30,000 sandbags are expected to be delivered on Monday March 9th.
In 2019, Lakeshore provided over 80,000 sandbags to residents at no cost.
