Kingsville Declares State Of Emergency

The Town of Kingsville has declared a State of Emergency today alongside other municipalities in Essex County as the threat of COVID-19 grows.

“Our community and our region is in the early stages of this pandemic and based on the evidence we have seen across the globe, the time to call the emergency is now so that there is no confusion or question amongst our citizens about the seriousness and threat that COVID-19 poses,” said Mayor Nelson Santos. “Our effort in taking the appropriate preventive measures today represents the best course of action for the overall betterment of our communities”.

Santos joined other municipalities across Windsor and Essex County in urging residents to take the situation seriously and to heed the advice of the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit as it relates to social-distancing, proper hand washing and sanitizing as well as the 14-day self-isolation for returning travellers.

“It’s an important message,” Santos said. “Stay Home! Please limit non-essential trips out and help us further protect our health care workers on the front line by taking the necessary steps to flatten the curve and lessen the impact on our health care system.”

Declaring the State of Emergency allows for municipalities to prepare by limiting activities to essential services, ensuring they have the flexibility to mobilize appropriate resources as needs arise, for not only COVID-19, but also for other issues such as flooding, as local water levels remain at record highs.

“It is important to remain calm and to know that across all levels of government, we are doing all we can to protect residents, but we need you to consider the seriousness of the situation,” said Santos. “If you have been away, you need to self-isolate. Stay home, stay safe and stay informed.”

“This declaration reinforces our commitment to working collaboratively with all of our partnering municipalities, government officials, first responder agencies and healthcare organizations to ensure we are as best prepared as possible to respond to the needs of our residents,” he said.

The Town encourages residents to follow updates from the Windsor Essex County Health Unit.

Residents are encouraged to subscribe to the news pages at www.kingsville.ca to receive automatic emails whenever new information is posted.

They are also asked to sign-up or modify their contact details in Kingsville Alerts, the Town’s emergency notification system. Residents listed in the Town of Kingsville’s database were automatically subscribed to Alerts by the phone number on record, however officials say self-registration is strongly encouraged to ensure their best possible contact pathway is selected.
