Howie

Breed: Shih Tzu Mix
DOB: October 15, 2018
Weight: 11 lbs
Sex: Male
Energy Level: medium to high energy
Adoption Fee: $450.00

Requirements:
-fully secured fenced yard (no electric fence)
-no apartments
-if children in the home, must be 7 years old or older
-must have another active & respectful dog in the home (please note that Howie plays well with larger dogs as long as the larger dog does not play too rough)

Pup-sonality:
Howie is an adorable little guy who was picked up by animal control, after being abandoned in a field, in a terrible state. His fur was so matted and his skin was in bad condition due to the lack of much-needed grooming. Once he was rescued, he was given proper grooming and care, revealing a beautiful pup. Howie’s future adopters will need to keep his coat clean and trimmed with regular grooming (every 4-6 weeks). He plays well with big and small dogs, but any larger dogs should be respectful and accustomed to playing with smaller dogs so as not to be too rough with him. Howie has lived in foster with children but is unknown about cats.

Howie can be prone to separation anxiety due to his rough start in life and must have another dog in his furever home to help keep him calm and feeling secure. He is a gentle, loving cuddler who wants nothing more than to be with people and his fur-family. He has responded well to positive reinforcement behaviour training while in foster and has learned to sit, stay, lay down, and fetch. Howie loves to play fetch, bringing the ball back again and again. He loves to go for walks and is very good on his leash. Howie is crate-trained for short periods and house-trained. He loves to be close by his humans at night and prefers to cuddle in bed with you. He rarely barks and is easy to please. Howie does love to chase squirrels and small critters so he definitely needs to be in a home with a securely fenced yard so that he doesn’t follow his nose too far. Howie is a dog that has not been treated well by humans for the first year of his life and he deserves to find a loving home with a family that will treat him like the good boy that he is for the rest of his life.

All dogs available for adoption with Second Chance Animal Rescue Windsor-Essex come fully vaccinated, including lepto, spayed/neutered, microchipped, and heartworm tested (and are on heartworm/flea preventative while in our care). At adoption, adopters receive a 6-week free trial of pet insurance.
