Wendy

Breed: Terrier Mix
DOB: October 1, 2017
Weight: TBD
Sex: Female
Energy Level: medium to high energy
Adoption Fee: $375.00

Requirements:
-fully secured fenced yard (no electric fence)
-no apartments
-another dog in the home, must be an active dog that is less than 40 lbs
-if children in the home, must be respectful of boundaries with dogs

Pup-sonality:
Wendy is a friendly little girl who loves to be loved. She currently lives in a foster home with a baby and older cat and gets along well with both. She is crate-trained and house-trained. Wendy is still learning some basic commands, but she is one smart cookie, a patient family willing to work with her using positive reinforcement training will be rewarded with a well-trained companion. From time to time, Wendy will grab a sock or slipper, but redirects easily with gentle commands. She is a playful pup who loves to chase stuffy toys and run around outside in a secure yard, she is very quick. While she enjoys a good amount of playtime, Wendy also likes to cuddle on the couch and will curl up into her human’s lap any chance she gets. She can be a little nervous when meeting someone new for the first time, but warms up quickly once she knows she’s safe. If her forever home has children, the children must be respectful of boundaries with dogs and respectful of their space. She will need another dog in the home to make her feel safe and secure. Wendy always wants to know where her people are and will follow them around to see what’s going on. She sleeps in her foster family’s bed at night and will stay curled up until someone wakes up for the day. She is fairly quiet and barks infrequently. Wendy will make an amazing addition to the right family. She is the perfect combination of a playful pup and a cuddle-bug.

Medical Note: When Wendy was rescued, she tested positive for heartworm, but has since been successfully treated with immiticide in Texas in August 2019. She will require a standard heartworm test in February 2020 as follow-up. Wendy must remain on monthly heartworm preventative for the rest of her life to ensure there is no recurrence of infection. Wendy is one of the lucky ones as heartworm positive dogs are the first to lose their life in a high-kill shelter. Heartworm is so easily prevented and should not mean the end of an otherwise healthy dog’s life. We rescue as many as we can as they deserve to live their fullest and happiest life with humans that love and care for them.

All dogs available for adoption with Second Chance Animal Rescue Windsor-Essex come fully vaccinated, including lepto, spayed/neutered, microchipped, and heartworm tested (and are on heartworm/flea preventative while in our care). At adoption, adopters receive a 6-week free trial of pet insurance.
