The Greater Essex County District School Board schools says that will be open and student transportation will operate as usual on Monday, October 7th, even if CUPE employees are on strike.
The Canadian Union of Public Employees which represents custodial, maintenance, clerical and information technology staff has declared its intent to begin a legal work stoppage if a new collective agreement has not been reached by Sunday October 6th at midnight.
The board says that teachers, administrators and education support staff will still be in schools on Monday and a plan will be in place to maintain student safety and building operations in the absence of the striking employees.
