The 11th annual Terry Fox Giant Used Book Sale has kicked off this year, with an exciting morning filled with hundreds of eager shoppers.
Nearly 500 people lined up for the opening day of the sale. Jan Wright, the chairperson for the Tecumseh Terry Fox Run for the past 15 years, explains that people come from all over to shop at their sale. “It’s become a real family event now,” she says with a smile.
44,468 books were donated for this year’s sale. Volunteers took a large chunk of their time to sort through the collection for this year’s event, which is enjoyed by thousands annually. All funds go towards the Terry Fox Run for Cancer Research via the Tecumseh Terry Fox Run. The sale continues this weekend, with the last day taking place Saturday the 14th.
The Tecumseh Terry Fox Run itself takes place next Sunday, September 15th, at Green Acres Optimist Park. Tecumseh’s run has turned in to one of Ontario’s largest events for the cause, coming in 6th last year in terms of funds raised.
