The John Muir Branch will officially opens Saturday, September 28th with a ceremony scheduled for 1pm.
The 7,400 sq. ft. branch opens in the former 1921 Sandwich Fire Hall and Stable and balances library needs with the space limitations.
“The design of the John Muir branch is a wonderful reflection of the Sandwich community and the passion John Muir had for the area and its history. City Council and the Library Board are proud to recognize the significant role John played in shaping Sandwich, and the impact he had on our entire community. This unique facility is a testament to his legacy. This is also the latest example of Windsor embracing new technologies and services, along with newer, more innovative facilities, to shift how we’re able to do business… and the kind of difference we’re able to make,” said Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens.
Muir was Vice-Principal of General Brock Public School for four years in the 1970s and returned as principal from 1981 to 1987 and immediately became a leader in advocating for a public library in Sandwich. Muir passed away in July, 2016.
