A power outage that had been affecting thousands of people in Windsor has been restored.

ENWIN Utilities said the wide-spread outage affected approximately 5,000 people across the Downtown and West Windsor areas.

Officials said the outages were related to a fire near the J.C. Keith Transformer Station in West Windsor, where power from Hydro One is transformed to levels compatible with the ENWIN distribution system.

Windsor Fire said a scaffolding tarp in the area contacted high tension power lines, caught fire and the blaze spread to nearby grass.

Power has been restored to most of the city.

Officials say some areas are expected to be restored shortly.
