It could cost up to $3 million to repair Lakeview Park Marina.

The marina has been closed for the 2019 boating season after rising water levels have damaged docks.

According to city administration, when the marina was built in 1980, earlier methods of design and construction were used. The docks are wood construction on steel and/or wood pole pilings. Each dock area has hydro and water service and vary in size.

The water levels combined with the wind pushing the water on shore have lifted many of the wooden planks off their steel structures. The docks are currently unsafe for both staff and seasonal boaters to access.

The city had already had plans in place to replace the far west docks with floating docks as part of capital improvements funded through the approved 2019 capital budget.

Facilities and Recreation staff are now in the process of retaining a consultant to review cost estimates, timelines and options to replace all of the existing docks.

“The installation of floating docks throughout the marina will address the issue of fluctuating water levels on an ongoing basis. Simply repairing the existing docks or constructing higher support measures is likely to be a temporary measure as water levels have varied up and down significantly in the last 5 to 10 years,” notes the report to council.

City Council will be asked on June 3rd to approve the emergency repairs.  Should the be approved, the city says the marina should be open again for the 2020 season.
