The City of Windsor has announced that they are looking at potential options for the former Grace Hospital site.
The property had been on hold since 2015 for the new Windsor-Essex Hospitals System to build a satellite emergency department at this location.
In a statement, Windsor Regional Hospital says that as per their agreement with the city, the option to consider alternative uses for the site has always been available to the City.
“Depending on how the City chooses to move forward, the Grace site may still house the Satellite Emergency Department. However, it has been nearly 4 years since the plan was announced and the City must to continue to do its due diligence,” said Steve Erwin, Manager, Corporate Communications, Government and Community Relations for Windsor Regional Hospital.
“Right now, at the request of the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, the hospital has been examining the ongoing use of the Ouellette Campus, on an interim basis, for the Satellite Emergency Department and some Ambulatory procedures.”
The hospital says that whether it is at the Grace site, at the Ouellette campus or elsewhere, this will always remain part of the Windsor-Essex Hospitals System plan.
This decision is not a direct result of the zoning appeal, however as we continue to state, any delay caused by us in the region does not help the project move forward.
