There soon could be changes to area health units in Southwestern Ontario.

Changes to boundaries are being proposed for the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit, Lambton Health Unit, Southwestern Health Unit, Chatham-Kent Health Unit and the Middlesex London Health Unit that would see a regional health office created.

This comes after the Ontario Government announced a plan to reduce the number of health units from 35 to 10.

Communications Manager for the London Health Unit Dan Flaherty said that this announcement is not considered a merger and that any changes would have public consultation first.

Flaherty said that any changes would not happen before April 2020.

The local Health Unit has yet to comment.
