Tree Planting Event This Sunday
Thn Essex Region Conservation and the Detroit River Canadian Cleanup are hosting the 20th annual Earth Day Tree Planting Celebration this Sunday, April 28 in East Windsor.
The event which runs from 10am to noon will see 2,000 trees planted.
“This is a great family event, and after 20 years, it’s been wonderful to see so many return year after year, “explains Danielle Breault Stuebing, ERCA’s Director of Communications & Outreach Services. “Planting trees helps improve water quality, removes carbon from the air, helps to mitigate flooding and the impacts of a changing climate.
Since 1999, this event alone has added more than twenty thousand trees to the City of Windsor’s landscape. “As this location is part of the Detroit River Watershed, the trees planted also help to improve water quality for the entire Detroit River and ultimately, our Great Lakes,” Stuebing says. Groups of ten or more individuals are invited to sign up as a Green Team for the event, where they will be recognized for their efforts with a plaque. Individuals and families are also welcome to attend, even if they are not part of a Green Team.
The event will be hosted at the green space off Wyandotte between Florence & Martinique. You are encouraged to bring your own shovel, as there is a limited supply of tree planting tools available.
