A popular downtown Windsor community garden is on the move.
The Downtown Windsor Community Collaborative has had a garden in Bruce Avenue Park since 2012 and is home to an organized group of over 26 gardeners.
The popularity has outgrown the small space and their current location has already been expanded in order to accommodate growing and space requirements for users.
With plans to redevelop Bruce Avenue Park, the group has decided to relocate their gardens to Caron Ave Park, which is approximately 450M away from Bruce Avenue Park.
According to City administration, “the park is currently under-utilized and is comprised of open green space and a basketball court. As such the park would serve as the perfect open space to implement a more formal community garden.”
The park is wide open with limited tree cover which will provide more adequate light and space for the gardens.
After Councils approval Monday evening, the parks department will now work to construct the gardens in time for the 2019 growing season.
