St. Clair College and the Student Representative Council (SRC) held their grand opening for the new Dr. John A. Strasser Student Life Centre Friday morning.
The new facility was built in a former 12,864 square foot courtyard space. After years of campus surveying to determine what the students needed and wanted–which was more casual seating and socializing areas on campus– the SRC responded to those needs and developed the plans for this project.
“The Student Life Centre is a culmination of many student needs,” SRC president Jeff Rousseau explains. The space will now serve as a hub for student life with build-in benches that can seat more than 260 people. The centre also provides movable seating for more than 70 people. There are soft seating options on the upper floor, a large state-of-the-art sound stage with in-house line array and lighting.
The new space provides students an area for academic purposes, a space for club activities, and live entertainment opportunities.
