The Dougall EMS base at the foot of the Expressway off ramp is set to be replaced.
The existing facility was constructed in the early 1980’s, but is now deemed insufficient for vehicle capacity to accommodate current ambulance dimensions and the required number of vehicles to service the surrounding area.
In addition, the existing base lacks the necessary staffing resources, equipment and storage for vehicle/staff supplies.
The new facility will have drive through access, and will be similar in design to the recent facilities constructed in Lakeshore, LaSalle, Harrow, Essex and Tecumseh.
It will also feature appropriate staffing quarters and storage capabilities for equipment and supplies, accessible washrooms with sufficient number of lockers for staff, a fuel depot, and generator backup power.
Front Construction Industries won the tender to construct the new building at a cost of $2,494,711.89. Funding for this project is provided from the Corporation’s Capital Reserve.
County council will give final approval at their meeting Wednesday evening.
