On Friday night Bike Windsor Essex kicked off their Get Lit Campaign along with their Holiday Market during the soft-launch of their new Bike Hub.
Located at 101 University Avenue West, on the corner of Pelissier and University, the Bike Hub aims to “create a shared community space,” says Bike Windsor-Essex Executive Director Lori Newton. The Hub plans to host training, classes and workshops on various bike-related activities, including riding, maintenance, and safety.
The newest initiative hopes to educate cyclists on the importance of having a light or reflective device on the front and backs of their bicycles.
“The Get Lit Campaign to get bikes lit up will install free lights for those who can’t afford them,” says Newton, noting that for $10 you can purchase lights, which volunteers will install, and for $20 you can get your own set as well as sponsor a cyclist in need.
Throughout December The Bike Hub will also be hosting a Holiday Market which includes bike-centric gifts that are all hand-made in Windsor. There is a range of items available including bike chain jewelry and bicycle printed coffee mugs, and proceeds from the event will support safe cycling.
