If the 2017 City of Windsor budget was passed today, Windsorites would be facing a 4.4% tax increase.
According to a report to city council that outlines 2017 operating and capital budget pressures, Windsor is facing a $17.2 million budget increase.
With the addition of the requested service enhancements, the increase could jump to 6.4%.
According to the report written by Natasha Couvillon, Deputy Treasurer for the city, she says that “both the budget pressures and service enhancements are currently being reviewed by senior administration, and as such, will change prior to the presentation of the final 2017 operating budget to city council.”
She does warn that there is very little discretion in many of the pressures that are typically brought forward as many are contractual or legislated obligations for which the corporation has no discretion. Additionally an amount of approximately $1.4M has already been previously approved by council.
The budget goes to city council in December.
