The month of June is Adopt a Shelter Cat month, and the Windsor/Essex County Humane Society is kicking the month off with a first-ever fee-waived adoption promotion on all cats.
On Wednesday, June 1st for two hours only from 6pm to 8pm all the adoption fees for all cats over five months old will be waived. Kittens under fivemonths will have their adoption fees reduced to only $99.
Historically, humane organizations have worried that fee waived adoptions would result in adopters valuing the animal less. However, research has demonstrated no differenced between attachment to animals with a fee attached versus fee-waived adoptions, while fee-waived events like this one help to reduce shelter crowding and lengths of stay.
Adoptable cats can be previewed online at www.windsorhumane.org. Even with these deep adoption fee discounts, adopted cats still come vet checked, spayed or neutered, vaccinated (except rabies), microchipped, treated for fleas and worms, tested for FeLV/FIV, and with 6 weeks of pet insurance.
An admin fee of $30 applies to all adoptions. Discounts cannot be combined and do not apply to previously adopted animals.
