The results are in for Crime Stoppers annual Shred don’t Share and Take Back Your Drugs events that took place on Saturday, April 9th, 2016 at Reaume Chevrolet, LaSalle and Saturday, April 16th at Devonshire Mall.
“Combined, both events took in almost 100 pounds of medication – of that, 7 pounds were narcotics with a street value of $$6500-$7000,” said Amanda Allen, one of Crime Stoppers Police Coordinators. “This included such things as Percocet & Fentanyl Patches.”
In addition to excepting medications, First Stop Service shredded almost 200 boxes of sensitive documents for the citizens of Windsor and LaSalle. Shredding was provided at a donation of $8 per box, with the proceeds going to help support the Crime Stoppers program. These events netted $1,468.
The total quantities were down from the year previous, but officials say this is hopefully a credit to people regularly disposing of their medication with their local pharmacy. As well, local police partners have made a valiant effort educating everyone to always shred personal documents with a cross blade shredder.
