The first ever festival to celebrate the United Kingdom in Windsor, the Windsor (little) British Festival is planned for Sandwich Towne on Saturday, May 7th.

A projected 1,000 plus participants will turn a small part of Windsor in to a big jubilee around England, Scotland, Ireland, and Wales. Attendees will raise a pint of ale or a cup of tea to all the wonderful things that make up those green and pleasant lands.

From a morning of English football (soccer), to cycling along with the famous Windsor Tweed Ride, to live music, to classic pub food and drink, to Irish dancing, and even a classic English car and motorcycle show the Windsor (little) British Festival has something for every one of all tastes and ages, from massive anglophiles to those who just want a fun day out.

“When we started organizing this we had no idea how much demand there is,” said organizer Stephen Hargreaves. “People are traveling from hundreds of miles, booking hotels for the weekend, and getting really excited.”

The festival takes place in Sandwich Towne behind Rock Bottom, Westside Foods and the soon to open Sandwich Brewery with the main event running from 4pm to 10pm.

Admission is $10 with tickets available at the gate or in advance from Rock Bottom. Participants in the Windsor Tweed Ride gain free entry with proceeds supporting Bike Friendly Windsor-Essex.

Planned events include:

‘The British Market’: Featuring vendors selling lots’a bits from Britain! Including imported food, clothing, gifts, and more; everything from football shirts (customized on site) to Walkers Crisps, to bicycles to teapots and even baked goods from Grand Bend’s famous Scottish bakery Grandpa Jimmy’s.

English Car Show: Stroll through British motoring heritage with cars from the 40s to the 00s with marks including MG, Mini, Jaguar, Rolls Royce, Aston Martin, etc.

Live Music: Enjoy the British Invasion, BritPop, mod, glam rock and more live on our massive outdoor stage including a special note-for-note 100% live tribute to The Beatles by Windsor’s own Liverpool Echo, and a set of the best of British folk, rock and roots music with London, England’s Chris Bolister.

Real Ales: MacLean’s Ales will be on site pouring great beer brewed by Charles MacLean, a man who traveled England in the 1970s on a Norton Commando motorbike learning how to make a proper pint.

Pub fare: Great pub food from the back of a great little pub; Rock Bottom Bar and Grill.

Brewery Tours: Guests can take a sneak peek in the soon-to-open Sandwich Brewery.

Irish Dancing: Fresh off of their performances at the World Irish Dancing Championships, Windsor’s Emerald Isle Dance Society will show us what some of the world’s best hard-shoe and soft-shoe ceilis and set dances.
