Sheldon Taylor, co-founder of the Men United for God Food Bank was honored this past weekend for 30 years of service to the Windsor Community.

In 1986, three men, Sheldon Taylor, Tim Turner and Melvin Freeman, Sr., had a desire to feed and clothe those less fortunate within the downtown Windsor community, and 30 years later the dream continues on.

Two of the founders have since passed away but the vision remained strong in Taylor’s heart to carry on the work that had begun so long ago.

Taylor can be found working primarily outside the food bank in all types of weather conditions. Rain, snow, heat and humidity cannot stop him from ensuring everyone has adequate food to feed their families.  At 76 years old, no task is too big or too small for him to handle.

Under the leadership of Taylor, in 2015, 11,840 people were served at the food bank. In turn, this enabled 33,048 families to be fed and clothed. In addition, 17,271 food packages were delivered throughout the Windsor community to those who were in need for a total of 50,319.
