The Downtown Windsor Business Improvement Association and the Downtown Residents Association are looking to relocate the Farmers’ Market to Pelissier Street, between Wyandotte Street and the egress of the Pelissier Street Parking Garage, and Maiden Lane West for the 2016 market season.

In a letter to City Council, both groups say that they believe that locating the Farmers’ Market on Pelissier Street and Maiden Lane will establish the street and the alley as important public gathering spaces that contribute to a vibrant and healthy community, and engage more residents, visitors and businesses.

They also say the “new location will improve access to healthy local foods and support green jobs; serve an important need in an under served area; and provide opportunities for downtown businesses, the hospitality industry and consumers to connect directly with local food producers.”

The market is currently located at Charles Clark Square.

City Council will debate the location change Monday evening.
