Michele Legere has been appointed Executive Director of Forgotten Harvest Canada. Legere has been with the organization since November, 2014 as the Food Rescue & Community Relations Manager.
“We are delighted to have Michele Legere lead the way as our Executive Director” says Board Chair, Jeffrey Slopen. “Her commitment and passion will provide us the leadership needed to guide the organization.”
“Given the most recent news regarding the rising costs of produce, what we do is going to become even more critical” says Legere. “I am honoured that the Board has given me this opportunity and look forward to strengthening our commitment to the community.”
Forgotten Harvest Canada uses a refrigerated truck to pick up edible, unmarketable and excess vegetables and fruit and delivers the produce to schools, food banks and agencies that help feed our community. “We couldn’t do what we do without the wonderful network of greenhouses, growers and grocery stores that join us in fighting hunger,” acknowledges Legere.
This appointment comes amidst a busy time for the organization. The need to reduce hunger and waste is particularly important in the holiday season and the truck has been very busy with picking up and delivering food to over 40 community agencies. As well, an upcoming Christmas concert at St. Clair College Centre for the Arts will provide support to the agency.
