Two mosquito pools in the City of Windsor have tested positive for West Nile Virus.

The health unit says the virus, a potentially serious infection to humans, is spread by certain types of mosquitoes.

The two positive mosquito testing pools in the city indicate that West Nile is present throughout the region, as the first positive pool was found in Essex County on June 24th.

The health unit says positive mosquito pools are a reminder for Windsor-Essex County residents to continue to protect themselves by eliminating any standing water around their homes and property and take personal protective measures to avoid mosquito bites.

To date, the Health Unit has not received any reports of a human case of West Nile.
