The only time you can find Batman and The Joker happily coexisting in a room together is when they’re posing for young children looking up to their superhero and villain role models.
The Art Gallery of Windsor put on their first family gala to kick-off their Summer of Superhero’s exhibition at the gallery. Amber Hunter, manager of development for the Art Gallery of Windsor, said the proceeds from the event will go right back into the gallery. Specifically, the fundraiser will target their children’s programs like Sundays in the Studio presented by the support of Ann Safranyos and family where anyone can come and participate in art projects at the gallery, free of charge.
“I think the way it came about is the fact that, the comic exhibition is kind of kids of all ages,” said Hunter. “There’s so many adults that actually go out and they have all these great events but they’re never allowed to bring their kids, so we thought what better than to have a whole gala as a family…and we invited all of our superhero friends, so that makes it so much easier.”
The event is also kicking off the first of two superhero themed summer exhibitions. Until September 20th, gallery goers can enjoy the Heros and Villains exhibitions which features the comic book art of Alex Ross who Hunter said is “considered one of the greatest comic book artists anywhere.” The second exhibition, also on display until September 20th, is Between the Panels which is comic book art by David Collier, David Finch, Jeff Lemire and Kagan McLeod.
“I think because this is the kick-off for the rest of the summer it’s going to be great,” said Hunter. “We encourage all of our guests to come back to the gallery and come and view the great exhibitions we have.”
