An online petition has been started by the Downtown Windsor BIA looking to save the ground floor commercial space in the Pelissier Street parking garage.
Monday evening City Council will receive a recommendation from administration to convert the units into parking. Currently only three of the eight units are rented.
The DWBIA says that the loss of any ground level commercial units at the garage represents a loss of prime retail space; will detrimentally affect neighbouring commercial and residential property values; and is contrary to the City’s Official Plan which designates Pelissier as a theme street.
The DWBIA is calling on residents and property owners to save the commercial space from the wrecking ball and hold the municipality accountable for allowing the ground floor units to fall into a dismal state of disrepair, a situation it likens to that of the Paul Martin Building.
