No relief is in the near future for a very busy south Windsor intersection according to a city report heading to council tonight.

The intersection of Dominion and Northwood traffic gets very busy during the morning and early afternoon rush hour with traffic going to and from the areas four local schools, Holy Names, Northwood, Maranatha and Lajeunesse.  In addition, Friday afternoon traffic is increased with worship at the Windsor Mosque.

The area is currently undergoing a Environmental Assessment and on February 16th ward councillor Paul Borrelli asked administration what options are presently being looked at to resolve or improve the traffic and infrastructure situation.

According to the report, the city has attempted several solutions over the years that have been met with limited success. Those including staggered bell times for the schools, and computer modeling for intersection timing adjustments.

One solution that has been proposed as part of the ‘South Cameron Secondary Plan’ calls for the intersection to be diverted from the existing Dominion Boulevard to a new arterial road on Alexandra Avenue just to the east.

City administration says that the traffic analysis portion of the Environmental Assessment is almost complete and that an information open house and workshop are planned for early May.

The report says any final design solutions are still estimated to be 18 months away.
