Land, Sea & Air in Jackson park

As prom and graduation season gets closer, the local Veterans Memorial Services Committee is raising concerns.

In a letter to Mayor Drew Dilkens, committee Chairman Wayne Hillman says that in past years war memorials have been popular place for photos and those photos appear on social media among other places.

He says that numerous veterans have expressed concerns about students who climb on the various monuments in city parks and engage in “horseplay” for photos. They feel they are disrespecting the the memorials, and veterans say this casues outrage, anger and insults to them.

They have asked the Parks Department and Windsor police to step up patrol of the parks during the upcoming season. They have also sent letters to both school boards asking them to asking them to each school to address the veterans concerns.
