The aluminum spaceship sculpture that has been along the riverfront for years could be sold off as scrap.
Known as Craft 9, the sculpture was removed from the Windsor Sculpture Park last summer, after it was discovered it was not meant to be installed outside.
The internal sculpture was assessed for structural stability and it was discovered that the internal framework was made from plywood that had rotted completely.
The city has been in contact with the artist who created the art piece, and were told he is not interested in making repairs to it. The artist, Ben Smit has recommended that the piece be deaccessioned from the collection of art pieces.
Should city council approve, the piece will be removed and the metal sold as scrap and the money put into the trust for future sculpture maintenance.
