Two men had to be rescued after their snow machine broke through the ice Saturday morning.
OPP say that around 10am, the two men were travelling together on the snow machine towing a shanty with the intent to do some ice fishing.
When the men were approximately 2 km’s south of the Kingsville Dock in Lake Erie they fell through the ice and became partially submerged. They had a cell phone and were able to call for help.
Kingsville Fire and Rescue ventured onto the ice in an attempt to located the men, but due to visibility, they were unable to find the missing men.
The United States Coast Guard were able to located the men and they were airlifted back to shore.
A 57-year-old male from Maidstone and his 25-year-old son from Windsor were treated at the scene by paramedics, and were transported to area hospital with minor signs of hypothermia.
Police say that the men were wearing the appropriate life saving gear.
The snow machine and Shanty remain semi-submerged in the ice, and police say will be safely retrieved in the near future.
