Pediatric READ is in its 11th year of hosting an annual event where local, national and international authors are invited to the community to speak to elementary school students.
Authors speak about how they get their ideas for writing and the creative process that occurs to produce a book.
Approximately 1000 students attend each year.
Again this year, they have hosted Young Authors and Story Writing Contest in February to support Black History Month.
This year they will feature award winning authors like Noni Carter author of Good Fortune, Floyd Cooper author and illustrator of several award winning children’s books, and our local author Linda Flay author of Abimbaboomba.
The theme of this year’s event is “Literacy Makes the World Go Round”. Kaysandra Curtis founder and chair of Pediatric READ expresses the motivation for the event, “Children’s literacy and a love for reading is vital to sustaining a vibrant engaged community. We are so grateful for the corporate responsibility demonstrated by TD Bank Group. Their partnership goes beyond providing funding; they also have volunteers participate in the event.”
This years event takes place on Thursday at the Ciociaro Club from 9am to 2pm.
