The Windsor/Essex County Humane Society is looking for anyone who may have information about an act of cruelty towards a cat.
The approximately one year old dilute tortoiseshell cat was found on Saturday evening in Amherstburg. When found, she had a serious wound on her tail which was caused by a plastic zip tie.
Officials say that based on the physical findings, it is clear that the zip tie was deliberately placed onto and tightened around her tail. The wound and resulting tissue damage were so severe that she will require amputation of her tail.
The cat, now named Marcie, is currently receiving antibiotics and pain control to allow time to improve her body condition prior to surgery. Humane Society veterinary staff expect to perform the amputation next week, and are optimistic that Marcie will make a full recovery.
A cat matching Marcie’s description with an injured tail has been seen in the area she was found since mid January, so we believe that the incident happened prior to January 14th.
Anyone with information about who may have been involved with this act of cruelty is asked to call the Windsor/Essex County Humane Society investigations department at 519-966-5751, ext 16 or Crime Stoppers at 519-258-8477.
