The Greater Essex County District School Board has finalized an agreement today with the Alpha Kai Omega Fraternity to take over the operations of Windsor Stadium.
The sports facility, which is part of the Kennedy Collegiate Institute property, had been operated by the City of Windsor since 1960 on behalf of the public school board.
A.K.O. has a long history of community service promoting sports among young people in the region with an emphasis on self-esteem, sportsmanship and leadership, according to school board officials. The Fraternity has accepted a license to assume operations of the facility with an option to provide improvements.
The school board says that it is anticipated that this agreement will provide improved opportunities for students not just at Kennedy C.I. but throughout the region. A.K.O. will make the needs of the high school and the Windsor Essex County Secondary School Athletics Association a priority when it comes to scheduling events.
It is the goal of A.K.O. to manage a high quality community sports, recreation and entertainment facility that is accessible to the community.
The fraternity, a not-for-profit organization, will realize all revenue from the rental of Windsor Stadium and assumes the responsibility for its maintenance and future development.
