The City is looking to install painted bike lanes on Roselawn Drive from Longfellow to Dougall Avenue, but not everyone who lives on the street is happy with the idea.
City administration had originally considered adding a multi-use trail to the center grass median, but determined that there was insufficient space to do so. It was after that that the city looked to install bike lanes on the road.
This past summer, the city undertook reconstruction of a section of the street from Longfellow Avenue to Woodland Avenue. Residents nearby — 37 of 74 property owners — objected to the new bike lanes, saying they would loose on street parking.
But the city says that this will not have an effect on on-street parking in this section of the road because parking is not permitted and never has been.
The report notes that the section between Roselawn Drive from Woodland to Dougall is constructed differently with mountable curb and gutter along the medians which permits additional street width for passing.
The cost to install bike lanes is $13,200.
