Design Intervention is an informal group of creative Windsor-Essex professionals, and they are hosting its second art show entitled Generation Oz: The Wizard of Oz Redesigned, which celebrates the 75th anniversary of the iconic film.

Over 25 local artists have created more than 25 custom art pieces, each incorporating a quote from the original screenplay. Art pieces will be displayed sequentially so that the public can read the story as they move through the exhibit.

The art show will run this weekend November 21st to 23rd at the Walkerville Brewery, in conjunction with the Made in Windsor Walkerville Holiday Sale.

Many of the artist participants are entrepreneurs who tend to work alone and who spend more of their creative energies bringing other people’s visions to fruition. This is an event that allows the designers to do art for art’s sake with no creative limits.

“When you get a chance to see what designers do when the creative constraints are removed, it really shows you their true style,” said one of the show’s organizers, Renée Bombardier.

The first show organized by Design Intervention in February 2010 was themed around Alice in Wonderland and its success encouraged the group to undertake a second show.

“After the last show, Cabbages and Kings, we knew we wanted to do another one. It has taken us over a year to plan, but we think Generation Oz will be an even bigger success!” added Bombardier.

The show concludes in a closing reception and silent auction on November 23rd from 2pm to 5pm. The closing reception is free, open to the public, and will include light refreshments and Wizard of Oz-inspired decor.
