This afternoon, Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare held a Prayer Vigil today and lowered the flag to half mast in honour of the fallen soldier, killed earlier today at the National War Memorial in Ottawa.
All hospital staff on-site were invited by Janice Kaffer, President & CEO to attend the Prayer Vigil, and those off-campus were invited to share a moment of private prayer and silence.
In a memo to all staff Kaffer said, “It is with a heavy heart that I communicate with each of you. I am sure that many of you are following the news reports coming out of our Nations Capital today. On behalf of our entire Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare Family, we extend our heartfelt condolences for the loss of life that the Canadian Armed Forces has experienced this week in Quebec and in Ottawa earlier today. At times like these we may feel shocked, helpless, sad, angry or a myriad of other emotions. I myself feel all of these emotions and am deeply saddened for all of the people who went about their daily activities not knowing their lives would be instantly changed.”
