The Canadian Mental Health Association, Windsor-Essex County Branch is holding a Community Open House this Thursday at its office located at 1400 Windsor Avenue.
The open house is being held as part of Mental Illness Awareness Week, a national public education campaign designed to help open the eyes of Canadians to the reality of mental illness.
The open house runs from 11am to 2pm and several community agencies will be onsite to share information about their programs and services. in addition at noon, a Meet n’ Greet with Sonja Grbevski, Vice President Clinical Operations, Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare & Rob Moroz, Integrated Director Outpatient & Community Services will take place. At 12:15pm experience Lunch n’ Learn featuring Dr. Jwely giving a talk entitled, “Suicide – Facts & Information” and at 1:15pm documentary Screening “Stigma of Mental Illness” will take place.
“With one in five Canadians personally dealing with a mental illness, we believe it is important to provide venues and opportunities for individuals to get information about programs and services available in the community that can provide assistance. Bringing awareness also allows us to address the stigma around mental illness,” says Mary Wilson, Acting CEO of the Canadian Mental Health Association – Windsor/Essex County Branch.
