Tonight’s meeting of Windsor City Council marks the last official meeting before council become ‘lame duck’ ahead of this Octobers election.
Lame duck status happens when less then 75% of the current council members will be running in the upcoming election. The lame duck period begins on the closure of nomination day which is this Friday September 12th to election day, which is on October 27th.
During a lame duck period council cannot hire or dismiss any employees, get rid of an property that has a value of $50,000 or more, or make any decisions that would cost the city over $50,000.
Due to all of this, city administration is recommending that city council cancel the meetings that were to be held on September 22nd and October 20th.
