A new local business that just opened in Downtown Windsor is already thinking about dressing girls for prom who can’t afford to buy a dress.

Hello Beautiful Custom Fashion & Bridal Boutique is hosting its Pretty Ugly Dress Grand Opening Contest. The boutique has partnered with the charity New Beginnings and will be collecting gently used, pretty prom dresses from now until the business’ grand opening on Friday, October 24th 2014.

People who drop off dresses at the downtown boutique will be given 15% off if they choose to shop the day of their drop off.

Hello Beautiful is hoping to reach a goal of 100 dresses by the time the store hosts is Pretty Ugly Dress Grand Opening Contest.

Boutique Co-Owner Harmony Peach explains the ugly part of the contest is the culmination of their dress drive and a really fun way to introduce to the community what the boutique can do.

“The ugly part of the Pretty Ugly Dress Contest is the opposite of getting all dressed up for an evening out,” she said.

“We want women to dig out their ugliest dress and put that ugly on and stand up and be judged! The woman who wears the ugliest dress will win a free makeover of that dress into something truly beautiful and runway worthy by Hello Beautiful Custom Fashion & Bridal Boutique! Ugly dress judging starts at 7pm on the 24th.”

Co-Owner Lori Moore points out “What woman doesn’t have a hideous bridesmaids’ dress just itching to be judged for its ugliness?!”

Co-Owner Dee-Dee Shkreli adds, “Even if it’s not a dress from a wedding party, we figured chances are just about every lady has that one dress in her closet that she just can’t explain. We want to see and judge that ugly dress and then we want to show everyone what’s possible at Hello Beautiful by turning the ugliest of the uglies into a fashionably stunning dress and all for no charge!”

“We wanted to do something fun and different and we also wanted to support a good cause and with Halloween just around the corner a dress ugly contest really fit the bill and helping young girls feel beautiful and special on one of the biggest nights of their lives is so important which is where the pretty part of our contest really comes into play.” says Moore.

“We feel like a dress ugly party is just so much fun! And while it’s great to be in the spirit of the season we also wanted to take this opportunity to give back to young women and girls who deserve to feel beautiful despite how much money they have which is why we decided to partner with New Beginnings. We feel like it’s literally a perfect fit!” adds Peach.

“By encouraging anyone to bring along a gently used prom dress for the next month or so we can, hopefully, help to make prom night beautiful for every girl no matter her lot in life! And, we’re happy to pay 15% of the purchase for any person who donates a dress from now until October 24th!” adds Shkreli.

Hello Beautiful Custom Fashion & Bridal Boutique is located at 532 Pelissier Street and its hours of operation are Wednesday to Saturday from 10am to 6pm and Sunday to Tuesday by appointment. For more information about the Pretty Ugly Dress Grand Opening Contest you can call the boutique at 226-783-1997.
