Windsor Police are warning the public to be vigilant when it comes to cell phones after recent incidents reported in Windsor.

Police have received several complaints recently of victims purchasing cell phones online only to later learn that the phone is stolen. Several victims have reported these incidents to police.

In most cases, the victims typically respond to online classified ads and make arrangements to meet “sellers” to pay for cell phones.

Police say the victims then try to active the phones with their carrier only to learn that the phone had been reported stolen.

Windsor Police are reminding everyone to be vigilant when it comes to any online purchases, especially phones.

Police are also warning about thefts of cell phones after several incidents where suspects will politely ask someone to use their phone to make an important call. Once the suspect is able to get possession of the phone, they run away stealing the phone.

Police are reminding people to only loan your phone to people who are known to you in order to prevent this type of theft.
