A popular Essex County pick your own blueberry place is closing.

Owners of Klassen Blueberries in Harrow posted a message in their website that says “Ted, Celia and Tyler Klassen need to inform our customers that we are retiring from the blueberry business. It has always been our intention to keep the family farm so our only option was to remove the bushes and shut down the store. We regret that many blueberry fans will be disappointed to lose the experience we have provided here. We will miss our customers and our employees greatly. Thank you very much for your support over the years. Ted and Celia are retiring and Tyler is moving on to marriage and a new career.”

Klassen Blueberries has been owned and operated the Klassen family since 1960 and open to the public since 1967.  They had specialize in growing highbush blueberries, and had  32 acres planted.

Two-thirds of the crop was picked by the public and the other third of the crop to sell already picked at their stand/ice cream and pie store, which was opened in 1996 and selling a variety of blueberry treats.
