The 2014 Ontario 55+ Summer Games kick off Tuesday with the opening ceremonies in the Town of Amherstburg at the Libro Credit Union Centre, with performances by “The Diplomats” Drum & Bugle Corps, alongside the “Parade of Districts” procession.
This will follow with two days of competition on Wednesday and Thursday with over 1,200 participants, including athletes, coaches and officials take part in, including 18 different sports such as golf, lawn bowling, slo-pitch, swimming, tennis, euchre, bocce, darts and five-pin bowling. More than 400 volunteers help to make these games a success every two years.
The Ontario 55+ Games aim to be a celebration of active, living uniting participants 55 and older in a multi-sport environment, while bringing communities together through the promotion of healthy living for all.
The Ontario 55+ Summer Games is a program of Sport Alliance Ontario and delivered in partnership with the Ontario Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport and the Ontario Senior Games Association 55+.
