As summer draws to a close, one last weekend of beach swimming may not be possible at certain area beaches.
Based on samples taken on Wednesday August 27th, West Belle River Beach is officially closed due to high E.coli levels.
Beach water testing reveals high levels of bacteria at Sandpoint Beach, Lakeside Beach, Hillman Marsh Beach and Cedar Island Beach. Due to possible health risks, swimming is not recommended at any of those beaches.
All other beaches are safe.
Water samples to test for E.coli are taken every Wednesday. The samples are sent to a public health lab in London. Testing is done Thursday and the results are given to the Health Unit by Friday.
