The City of Windsor’s new garbage container bylaw is now in its third week and officials are reminding residents to follow the rules.
The city says you’re reminded that containers of garbage can not be overflowing or beyond the weight limit (44lbs for containers 125 litres/30 gallons or less), or garbage will not be collected.
The by-law, which went into effect July 1st, requires that all garbage bags stored on your property or placed out for collection must be placed in a hard-sided container.
The city says there are two forms of acceptable garbage containers:
- Metal or plastic pail – these are a maximum capacity of 125L (30 gal) with one or two handles and a removable lid.
- Roll-out cart – these must have a lower bar 18” from the ground and an upper lift attachment 33” from the ground.
Residents are asked to contact 311 if garbage has not been collected. That way, information will be registered and submitted to the appropriate staff for follow-up.
The city says garbage collectors are not permitted to handle any questions or complaints regarding the collection services.
