UWindsor’s 101st Convocation Ceremonies Slated For This Week

This week, the University of Windsor will confer degrees on more than 3,600 graduating students during six sessions of the University’s 101st Convocation ceremonies taking place at the St. Dennis Centre.

During Spring convocation ceremonies, the University will also award honorary degrees to six individuals who have made outstanding contributions to education; medicine; the dramatic arts; business; telecommunications; community service; law and access to justice.

David S. Cooke (Hon. BSW ’75) will receive an honorary Doctor of Laws degree during the 10am, Wednesday, June 11th session of Convocation.

Dr. Janet Rossant will receive an honorary Doctor of Laws degree during the 3pm, Wednesday, June 11th session of Convocation. Rossant is a Senior Scientist in the Developmental & Stem Cell Biology Program and Chief of Research at The Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto.

Amanda Tapping (Hon. BFA ’88) will receive an honorary Doctor of Laws degree during the 10am, June 12th session of Convocation. Tapping is an accomplished actress and director best known for her 12 seasons on Stargate: Atlantis and Stargate: Universe as Air Force Colonel Samantha Carter. She then appeared at Dr. Helen Magnus on the television series Sanctuary, a show in which she has served in a director’s and executive producer’s role.

Martin J. (Marty) Komsa (Hon.BA ’76) will receive an honorary Doctor of Laws degree during the 3pm, June 12th session of Convocation. Komsa is a native of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario and is President and CEO of Windsor Family Credit Union (WFCU). He has been with WFCU since 1986 when he accepted the position of General Manager and led his team to the reorganization of the credit union’s processes and initiatives. As a result, his title and role was changed to Chief Executive Officer in September, 1994.

George Cope will receive an honorary Doctor of Laws degree during the 10am, June 13th session of Convocation. He is President and Chief Executive Officer of Bell Canada and BCE Inc.

The Honourable Warren K. Winkler, Q.C., B.A., LL.B, LL.M., LL.D. (Hon.), will receive an honorary Doctor of Laws degree during the 3pm, June 13th session of Convocation.
