Windsor Fire are seen at the site of the second incident where a man was rescued from the Labelle tunnel. He was taken to hospital with a leg injury.

Updated: June 19th

A 40-year-old man has died and one other was taken to hospital in two different incidents on the Herb Gray Parkway construction site.

In the first incident, OPP say LaSalle Fire, Lasalle Police and Essex County EMS were called around 3:30pm to a Parkway construction area between Todd Lane and Cousineau Road.

40-year-old Giuseppe Serra was pronounced dead at the scene.

OPP say the Ministry of Labour is investigating the cause of the incident.

“The Windsor Essex Mobility Group and Parkway Infrastructure Constructors are saddened to confirm a fatality of an employee of one of the subcontractors has occurred on the Rt. Hon. Herb Gray Parkway,” said project director Michael Hatchell.

“Our thoughts and Prayers are with the families at this time. We are participating fully in ongoing investigations and will provide further information upon its completion.”

In the second incident, more than a kilometer away near where the Parkway approaches EC Row, Windsor Fire and EMS were called to rescue a worker from inside the Labelle tunnel on the Parkway. The second incident took place around 4:45pm.

A construction supervisor told windsoriteDOTca the worker in the second incident was lifted from the tunnel and taken to hospital.

Windsor Police say the worker in the second incident received a laceration to his leg.

The two incidents do not appear to be related.

Officials have not released any more details on either incident.
